Nia Alaera is the only daughter of the Alaerian King Thaedis. As such, she stands as heir to the throne. To benefit the Alaerian realm, she is betrothed to the mayor of a neighboring district, sight unseen.
After all her childhood fantasies the betrothal is a bitter pill to swallow, but her dedication to her people and her family offers her silent courage… until the day she meets her mysterious husband-to-be.
With his unruly shock of auburn curls and eager smile, Shamus O’Neill reminds her more of a boy than a mayor. And those rich emerald eyes cause a flutter different than she has ever experienced before.
Will her role be forever his fair princess? Or will her heart finally burn with the passion she has longed for?

I received a review copy of My Fair Princess as part of the book launch package for my blog Tracings. Between the time I first read it and the time of this review, a couple of months elapsed due to life events. As a result, I needed to re-read the book to refresh my memory. It was every bit as entertaining and heart-fluttering the second time around. To watch the love bloom between Princess Nia Alaera and Mayor Shamus O'Neill was a welcome change from the romance novels of my past. In my reading experience, most of the time in this genre it's either instant attraction followed by a tumble into bed, or love on one side and some other emotion on the other. It's all driven by feelings, hormones and pheromones.
Not so with My Fair Princess. While there's plenty of attraction between the main characters, Nona has written something deeper here. She explores the process of finding true love on a level I don't usually see in the genre, and the liberal doses of humor throughout keep the story from getting maudlin or melodramatic.
I don't usually read a book twice in two months, but I can say that with My Fair Princess, it was well worth the return visit.
I gave it four stars instead of five only because of a few word choices that jarred me out of the story. Otherwise, an excellent tale of love and romance.

My Fair Princess edition by Nona Mae King Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I enjoyed reading this book. It was an enchanting love story that hooks you from the beginning. I look forward to reading more of her books.
Want to know what "smitten" means? Bypass the dictionary and go straight to Nona Mae King's delightful story, My Fair Princess. This sweet and spicy romance traces the developing love between Princess Nia Alaera and Mayor Shamus O'Neill, married by arrangement, connected by heart. An easy, light read guaranteed to enchant the reader.
The typical arranged marriage = people who have never met coming together in an intimate union. In this novella, Nona King tells the tale of a couple coming into the this arrangement with hope and making the choice to fall in love. The book explores the potential of love as a choice, provided that both make it.
A fun, sweet read with romantic tension peppered in for spice.
My Fair Princess is a sweet story of love, duty, and friendship. I'm not giving anything away by saying there's an arranged marriage - what I loved was it wasn't the typical storyline where the espoused groom is a tyrant and the bride a fearful waif destined for misery.
Nia Alaera understands her duty and why she must marry Shamus O'Neill. She goes into it headlong, with eyes opened. Fortunately for her, Shamus (Shay) is the epitome of a Sweetheart. He's gentle, handsome and generous, and is determined to give her every chance to fall in love with him. Do I hear applause, ladies? =-D
The only thing I wasn't thrilled with was that this story is obviously part of a series, so I was lost a few times. But if the rest of the books are populated with characters as engaging as these, I'll definitely be looking for them soon =-)
A mythical kingdom, a fairy princess, a lowly suitor and an arranged marriage - everything a good fairy tale needs is exactly what you'll find in My Fair Princess by Nona King. If a sweet romance is what you're looking for then look no further. The plot centers around Princess Nia of Alaeria and her arranged marriage to Shamus O'Neill, mayor of a neighboring region. She complies out of duty, but is surprised that the mayor may actually be to her liking after all. The book chronicles the slow but steady blossom of love between the two, with the major conflict being the internal one that the Princess faces as she learns to love her husband. There is a hint of danger from an unknown source threatening the region's water supply but this is never really developed to the full. Perhaps this will be the center of another installment. Instead, we are simply treated to some beautiful description and a gently developed love that is sure to leave the reader feeling warm inside.
